Derek & Hannah Steward
Pre-field Staff, Currently in Need of Your Support
Derek and Hannah grew up on opposite sides of the state of South Dakota. Each blessed with Christian families, they accepted Christ at young ages. They met in 2006 at Black Hills State University where they were both pursuing business degrees. Derek had a desire to serve in missions since he was a child, and intended to start a small business as an avenue to missionary work. Hannah was just beginning to explore the idea of serving the Lord in full time missions, which He confirmed during her college years. Through this shared calling, campus ministry, and classes, Derek and Hannah’s friendship grew and they were engaged shortly after graduation.
A short time later while reading missionary biographies, Derek became intrigued with the idea of missionary aviation. They prayerfully considered this direction and the Lord again confirmed His calling to this avenue of ministry. After marrying in March of 2011 the Stewards moved to Watertown, South Dakota for Derek to study for his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License. During this time, God also provided the resources for Derek to receive his Private Pilot’s License.
On spring break 2013 before graduating from A&P school, Derek and Hannah visited MARC, but clearly felt the Lord’s leading to wait before applying to join staff. Derek took a job in Spearfish, SD working on general aviation airplanes and Hannah worked part time at a bank to allow her to be home as much as possible with their children Isaac (born 2014) and Ada (born 2017).
In October of 2017, Derek and Hannah joined the MARC team and are currently on deputation to raise ministry support before returning to serve as full time staff in Soldotna, Alaska.
